A large, simple trial utilizing a 2x2 factorial design of lipid modification (LDL cholesterol lowering and HDL cholesterol
raising) with 10 mg of rosuvastatin/ day vs. placebo and blood pressure lowering with combination angiotensin
receptor blocker (ARB), candesartan at 16 mg/ day plus low dose diuretic, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg/ day vs.
placebo in middle aged individuals (women 65 years and older and men 55 years and older) with at least one
additional risk factor and who have no clear indication or contraindication to the therapies being evaluated. Total of 10,000 participants will be recruited in approximately 10 countries and followed for the occurrence of major vascular events over an average of 5 years.

Study Design: Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo Control, Factorial Assignment, Safety/Efficacy Study.

Intervention: Rosuvastatin, Candesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide, Factorial vs. placebo.

Length of Study: 7 years
